Charles H. Pitman, LtGen., USMC (Retired). Pitman retired from the Marine Corps in 1990 having served for 38 years, flying more than 12,000 hours in fighter, attack and reconnaissance aircraft and helicopters. His first SWAT operation was in 1973, when he flew a Marine helicopter over New Orleans in support of police, killing a sniper on the roof of the Howard Johnson’s Hotel. Since 1987 he has been involved in the training of Marine Corps Special Forces units. In 1996, he attended the Fairfax County Police Academy and became a Reserve Police Officer in Alexandria, VA. More recently, he has been training Marine Corps units going to Afghanistan and Iraq in counter-insurgency and convoy operations.
